VINEYARD AND HISTORY
Winegrower(s) Fabien Monachon | Oenologist(s) Thierry Ciampi | Floors Clay-limestone soils, proportion of gravels | Surfaces 8,5 ha |
Château de Vinzel used to be a pied-à-terre for the Bernese Lord coming to oversee his harvest and collect his royalties (the tithe).
However, there is little information about the history of this building before the 19th century. In the 18th century, the two castles of the village, Vinzel and La Bâtie, were only one domain. In the 19th century, Château de Vinzel was acquired by a Lombard from Geneva, who then sold it to Colonel Fendt, an engineering officer and architect from Geneva. In 1840, the latter begun major works in the domain. In 1901, his grandson Frédéric Binet sold it to Franz de Reding, whose family already owned La Bâtie. Franz’s son, Henri, inherited in 1908 from Château de Vinzel. In the 1930s, Henri de Reding decided to create a public limited company to benefit from partners’ investment and undertake essential renovations of the buildings and the vineyard. One of them, Arnold Schenk, became the sole owner a few years later.
