VINEYARD AND HISTORY

Until 1623, Château d'Eclépens was part of the barony of La Sarraz. Following the property division of Joseph de Gingins, baron of La Sarraz, Eclépens fell to his son Albert 1er who formed a new seigneury. During the Reformation, Church property was given to the baron of La Sarraz. The new Lord therefore established his ordinary residence in the old rectory, which was converted into a seigneurial house and became Château-Dessus (the “castle above”). From 1786 to 1789, François-L. de Gingins used parts of the old house - including the square tower and its graceful pinnacle - to reshape the Château. On November 23, 1807, Charles Henry Alexandre de Gingins sold Château d’Eclépens to Paul Coulon from Neuchâtel (1731-1820) for "157,500 Swiss pounds, wines included". Seven generations later, his family still owns the Château. The estate is committed to organic viticulture. It welcomes a large audience in its gardens and tents for various events.
